Young Workers RightsOn October 17, 2019 by Raul Dinwiddie
Welcome to Eye on Safety… …presented by the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety Hey there, if you have a job there is some important you should know. Did you know…? Did you know that…? …as a worker in Canada… you have rights. Rights! We have three basic rights. ONE! You have the right to know about all the hazards in your job. Your employer or supervisor has to tell you about anything in your job that can hurt you… and they have to make sure you have the information you need to work safely. TWO! You have the right to participate. Ya, participate! You have the right to take part in keeping your workplace healthy and safe. You can be part of the Health and Safety Committee… …or a health and safety representative. You also have the right to participate in training and information sessions to help you do your job safely. Three! You have the right to refuse unsafe work. If you think your job may be putting you in danger… …you have an obligation to tell your supervisor about it. Report the unsafe situation to management. If the situation is not corrected… …and you feel your health and safety is at risk… …you have the right to refuse to do the work. And you can’t get in trouble from your boss… …or your company. Not if it’s unsafe. Not if it’s unsafe. Not if it’s unsafe. So, now you know! Now you know! Now you know! You have the right to know… …the right to participate… …and the right to refuse unsafe work. So, now that you know your three basic rights… EXERCISE THEM!
