Working for Real – Toni (Youth Worker, Rotorua)On September 6, 2019 by Raul Dinwiddie
Hi, my name is Toni and I work here at Haupapa Street the Rotorua branch of Real. And I’m a youth worker here. A typical day for me includes going out and meeting young people at school clinics, catching up with them, seeing how they’re going and supporting them in ways that they’ve identified will help them reach goals and motivate them. One of the reasons that I like working for real is that it allows me to reach the young people where they are at. So I can help to empower them and ways that they have identified that they need help in And I really love that because it means that we’re getting down to actually reach the people that are needing help, if that makes sense. A favorite moment for me working for Real is just the team. The team love that we have and share for each other – the other youth workers and the clinician’s on the team and the gentle ribbing that we have for each other pranks stuff like that, so coming to work and discovering post-its, covering desks and one day, we did instead of just having post-its covering the desks, they actually had Nice comments about each other on the desk. So that was really awesome that we could encourage each other as a team. Real is different from other organizations because they Can support you to be creative and the only limits that I’ve have has been my own imagination for helping a young person. And I think that is critical for my own professional life and professional journey is that there’s no limitations, and I think that’s amazing So if you guys have a passion for working with youth I think that real is a great organisation to work for and won’t regret it.
