Work and Play at the Third North Student Technology CenterOn March 1, 2020 by Raul Dinwiddie
[Music] Sarah Awad: The Third North Student Technology Center has a variety of services under the technology umbrella where students can connect, collaborate, work, and play. There are study rooms equipped with wireless televisions and whiteboards as well as workstations with desktop computers and a variety of software. There are collaborative spaces for gaming and VR, as well as several printers, both color and black and white. One of the benefits of having a student technology center up here on Union Square is that we have a lot of students that dorm up here on the square. That’s a lot of students that need services. Maybe on some days they don’t need to come down to Washington Square to print, or write their papers, or get work done, or even just hang out. So we are lucky that we’re able to provide them with services that are more convenient to them, and within their route during the day David: Because I live at Coral, two blocks up, I come to the student technology center all the time to work on papers or Adobe projects. Basically, anything that I have to do on a desktop, that’s easier than on a laptop. Sarah Awad: The most popular services for students here at the Third North STC definitely include our study rooms. They are nice and big and comfy and there are a lot of different options for them to play with in here. We have televisions, whiteboards, flexible furniture. So for any type of project a student is working on we can really modify the space. David: Yeah, the renovations here are great. The spaces for group study is awesome with the TV. It’s also AC controlled, so it’s always comfortable in there as well. Sarah Awad: VR has become a hot item in the technology world. We’ve seen an increase interest in students use. It’s been really exciting for us because we’ve been a lot of students first foray into VR and that’s always an exciting thing to see.
