Why Jungmin’s score stayed exactly the same [Happy Together/2020.03.19]On March 20, 2020 by Raul Dinwiddie
(Recreating the scene: the day of the final test) You have 15 minutes left. (The test ends in 15 minutes?) If you haven’t already, please mark your answers. There’s something I forgot. I was told to skip any questions that I don’t know the answer to. If you get stuck on a question. just skip it. (The teacher even warned him before the test.) I got greedy and didn’t want to give up. I spent too much time on that one question and ended up not being able to get to all of the other ones. I wasn’t able to get to about 40 questions. They were from the reading section and I wanted to cry. What shocked me was Saeho saying he managed to get to all the questions. I only took the RC test for the whole two hours and I was left with no time to spare. What? He answered all the questions without just guessing the answers? I knew what a fool I’ve been. All I have is regret. Unlike the LC test, you must allocate your time wisely during the RC test. If you forget about that and only focus on answering every question correctly, you won’t have prepared yourself in terms of time management. You’ll end up losing out on 20 to 30 questions and crumble due to the pressure especially if it’s your first time taking the test. Jungmin didn’t know which is why he had a rough time. I was wrong. I was overly confident. I should’ve stuck to only the RC part, but I couldn’t give up on the LC part. (He couldn’t give up on the LC part.) I didn’t want to give up on it. During my third week, I kept thinking about what I’ve been doing. I felt defeated and hit a slump. Continuing like this would only make my brain explode, so I went back and started to study the LC part. (He started studying the LC part again.) I wanted to see the final result of all my studying. I worked this hard, so I didn’t want to give up on the LC part. It just didn’t seem right. I was upset when I was told to only take the RC test. In the end, I knew that I wasn’t going to see a huge improvement on the RC part alone, so I studied the LC part in order to take the test. I wanted to take both tests and see my overall score. The battle was against myself. (The battle was with himself and not others.) I was curious. For the first time since the day I was born, I sat down and studied every day. I studied both sections to see what result I could produce. (He wanted to see if his hard work paid off.) Jungmin studied so hard that he wanted to actually take the proper test. He wanted to take the test properly. It’s not like I’m trying to comfort you but… (Team Rabbit Saeho is the Fairy of Comfort.) Isn’t that what you’re trying to do? You’re only making him feel worse. He received 90 by guessing in the first test, but he actually got that score by knowing the answers this time. – Just stay put. / – It’s not comforting at all. (Please stay put.) – Don’t say anything. / – Are you teasing him? (Please know that Saeho didn’t mean to tease him.) I’m sorry. Anyway, Jungmin scored 90 points in the RC part again. (Team Turtle Heo Jungmin) Team Turtle’s score improved by 55 points and Team Rabbit’s score improved by 160 points. (Final score: Team Rabbit wins.) (Anyway, Team Rabbit won.) Though it’s not something we can easily generalize, I’d like to know which method you think is more effective when it comes to studying. What fits your style is the best. – Wouldn’t that be the best way? / – I agree. I studied as a member of Team Rabbit. While I was studying, I couldn’t stop thinking that I might get a higher score if I studied like Team Turtle. – Since I was cramming for the test, / – Yes. I thought that if I had more time, and studied more systematically, I could get a higher score. In fact, Jinkyung improved her score a lot, but… I don’t think I improved my score a lot because of Team Rabbit’s study method. If I used Team Turtle’s method, – I would’ve gotten a better result. / – Right. I’m confident. But we had too little time. We had only three days. We didn’t have enough time. I think I could’ve done better if I had more time. – It’s a little disappointing. / – I understand. The journey of “Just One Month” has ended. We’ve watched the two teams studying in different ways. Could you all tell us how you feel about your experience? – Jungmin, you go first. / – Let’s start with Jungmin. I have never done anything persistently with concentration like that in my entire life. This project gave me a chance to improve my persistence that helps me do something constantly. You said you will keep studying English, right? I also want to continue the habit of studying. If I set a goal like becoming fluent in English this year, – it would stress me out too much. / – I see. Just as he said, I will continue trying to maintain the habit of studying. From the body design challenge to the study challenge, “Just One Month” has ended. Good job, everyone. – Great job. / – Good job. – We can do it. / – Great job. – Thank you. / – Good job.
