Together we can light their wayOn February 20, 2020 by Raul Dinwiddie
There are more than 111 000 unaccompanied refugee children worldwide. 3788 of these are in Greece. Most of these children have no one to look after them. They’re victims of a conflict they had no hand in an issue which they could not affect in any way. They’re the ones left behind in the wake of the largest refugee crisis in world history. Many of these children have been abandoned in the streets, with little hope for their future. But what if we could help change their destinies? What if it didn’t have to be like this? What if we could light their way? What if we could give them a safe place to be, away from the dangers of the parks and the streets? A place where they’d know no one would harm them where their basic needs would be tended to, where they could rest and feel at peace. Where they could breathe easy, and let out a laugh. What if we could give them back their worth? Make them realize that they are someone and that someone cares for them that someone wants to be with them. That they’re worth loving. They could live in our shelter and have a life together with other people that would care for them and want to be with them. We could help them realize that they’re not at fault, and that their past does not need to define their future. They could form relationships with peers, and have fun in a caring and safe environment. And what if we could give these children dreams, passion and hope. What if we could equip them with tools for a brighter future tools that could be used in all aspects of their lives. Not just so that they could hope for a better future but so that they themselves could build that better future for themselves and all those around them. But this isn’t just a dream. Together we can light their way.
