Neilson Powless zijn weg naar de Ronde van Californië | Team LottoNL-JumboOn October 3, 2019 by Raul Dinwiddie
In the past, Neilson has done well in the Tour of California. As part of his training, we’ve said that he’ll be riding there as a leader. That’s why we’ve specifically worked towards that race. Immediately after the Tour of the Basque Country, Neilson went to the United States. There, he did an altitude training at the National Training Centre of the USA in Colorado. He spent three weeks there. He’s trained well and specifically. However, he had to get rid of a cold in the beginning. He’s been back from his altitude training for about ten days. He’s been training on a number of climbs that you’ll also find in the Tour of California. This way, we hope to get off to a good start. The goal is to ride a very good classification. We don’t put a specific result on it yet. It’s the first time that he has been played out as a leader in our team. We’re going to try to bring him to the decisive climbs in the best way possible. He has to ride a very good time trial. We hope that he’ll get a good final ranking at the end of the week. George is riding the Giro. Last winter, we decided that he would go to the Giro as a leader. In this case, of course, it wouldn’t be appropriate to ride the Tour of California as well. Therefore, he’s unable to defend his title unfortunately. But hopefully he’ll do well in Italy. Neilson has simulated the stage on Gibraltar Road, one of the decisive stages. He’s done specific time trial training to be able to ride well during the long time trial. These are the key trainings he has carried out.
