Meet our Lead Teacher – Jen! ✏❣On December 14, 2019 by Raul Dinwiddie
Hi, I’m Jen Hackett. I’m one of the lead teachers at Newtown Discovery Preschool. So when I became a mom, I had twins and it shifted my gears from focusing on the business world to the world of Education. As I saw my kids grow and develop I was so intrigued about the way they learned and grew that it kind of pushed me into the world of education. My approach would definitely be to get to know each child individually. Find out what motivates them, what their needs are, and differentiate my approach to meet their needs – by making it fun and really showing them that I care, that’s what is most important to me. So my teaching philosophy would be to reach children through their natural curiosity when they play and they socialize with other children, they’re actually constructing knowledge. When they learn to roleplay and act things out and use their creativity, it’s actually helping them build the skills that they’re going to need later in life, especially in elementary school when they have to do creative writing and things like that – they really can draw on those experiences. So after teaching preschool for 14 years, I can say that while the academic and the cognitive skills that they learn in preschool are obviously important the social-emotional skills that they build by interacting with the other children, playing, learning together, team building, problem solving… These are the kinds of skills that they’re going to need not only their next step in school, but throughout life. I’m very excited to meet you and your child, and I know that we can provide you with the best preschool experience.
