Leadership Training: 3 Types of LeaderOn November 20, 2019 by Raul Dinwiddie
There’s some great leaders in the world and in the dealership, there’s three types of leaders. Which one are you? I’m Tim Kintz. And what better place to talk about leadership, than right here at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. Let’s talk about leadership in the dealership. Because in the dealership we have three types of leaders. We have builders; we have maintainers; and we have destroyers. All right. And we’ve all seen all three of those types in the dealership. You know, think about that destroyer you’ve seen. You know, that manager they come in and they leave in six months. And it looks it looks like a bombed-out building. And they come in and they beat everybody up. They’re negative, they’re de-motivators. And by the time they leave they’ve got got contracts in transit in the millions floating around out there. And the biggest problem with destroyers is, is the law of attraction. Because destroyers attract destroyers. So there there’s a whole team of destroyers in the dealership. And we’ve all seen those guys. But we also have the maintainers, right? The guys, that they’re nice guys. They’re loyal guys. But they don’t actually grow the store. It doesn’t grow. It doesn’t fall backwards which is a good thing. But its complacency at its best or complacency at its worse. And it is fast as things change in today’s market, you can’t afford to be the maintainer. And we have to be builders. And this guy behind me was the ultimate builder. But we have to be builders of people. We need to be developers of people in the dealership. In today’s competitive market, it comes down to how good are your people? Look it’s not about your product. It’s about how good our people are. And they’re as good as they’re going to get on their own. It’s up to us as managers and leaders and builders of people to take these guys to the next level. So look, challenge yourself to become that builder. Challenge yourself to become that developer of people. I mean, think about Lincoln behind me. He was the ultimate builder. He took over a country that was in shambles and and turned it around. One of the greatest leaders of all times. Look, I challenge each one of you guys- become that leader in the dealership that builds and develops a team team of top producers.
