Jocko Willink: How To Deal With A Bad Co-WorkerOn October 13, 2019 by Raul Dinwiddie
Here’s what you do if
one of your co-workers is not pulling their weight.
The first thing you do is instead of
assuming that they’re lazy and they’re a bum, you
assume that they’ve got something going on in
their life that is interfering with their work.
And maybe the best thing you could do
is approach them and say, “Hey, is everything OK?
Do you need some help? Can I take some
of that weight off your shoulders?” Because you
don’t know where you’re going to end up in
two months and six months where maybe you’re the
one that has something else going on. Maybe you’re
the one that is going to need someone to cover
for you at work. Now, someone says, “OK, well, what
if I do that and then the person decides
they’re just going to start giving
me more work?” You know what I’m going
to say to that? OK great. Bring it. I’m going to do your
work for you. And what I’m gonna do is
I’m gonna start taking responsibilities from you
and eventually, guess what you’re not
going to have? Any responsibilities at all.
And then what that’s going to lead to is
you not having a job.
