Job Interviews (Part 6): Tell me about a time you worked on a teamOn October 17, 2019 by Raul Dinwiddie
In this week’s video, we’re gonna go over how to answer the job interview question, tell me about a time when you worked on a team. That’s coming up! Hey guys, I’m Kim with Snagajob, your number one source for hourly jobs and welcome to our weekly advice show. Situational job interview questions are basically those tell me about a time when ______ questions. That can be pretty stressful to answer. But they really show the interviewer how you handle job situations. It’s important to form your answers so it may remains on topic but also goes over all the key points that the interviewer is looking for. The S.T.A.R interview method is a great format to use when answering these. And we even made a video to show you how to do it. So when asked to talk about a time you worked on a team, there are definitely the right way and the wrong ways to answer. You definitely want to avoid answers like: My last job had a team environment which I loved because everyone else did all the work. But, no worries, I’m sure I’ll do better at this one! I actually worked on a team in my last position, man, I really loved that job. My coworkers were also hilarious. They also had fantastic food. Do you like chimichangas? I hate teams.Unless I can be the boss. I mean leader. There may be no I in team, but there is a me. You want to stay focused on the question and not come across as selfish or hard to get along with. In my previous retail position, each department was put into teams to work on Black Friday. So we could compete to get the highest sales. My team made an action plan to cover specific areas of the floor so no customer would be an oversight. We ended up with a 10 percent increase in sales from the previous year, and the highest sales among all the departments. We were pretty proud. Show the interviewer that you have absolutely no problem working with others towards a common goal. This type of answer is very well formatted and shows that you’re successful in working with a team.
