Edwina McKinney – Team BuildingOn August 19, 2019 by Raul Dinwiddie
I’m Edwina McKinney and I teach the Project Management Team Building class. I was a systems engineer manager and actually worked with project teams that were technical, that were marketing, or that were administrative, and was able to help them apply a lot of the good information, and that’s part of the reward for teaching. When you see the students be able to develop and implement some of the things that you have. The activities in this class really teach you the environment of teams, which means either a small work-group or very large cross-functional project team. We work in all industries and look to provide you with a skill set that you wouldn’t be able to get another places. Class itself has teamwork activities involved in it, we take a look at the overview of the roles and responsibilities that are there, teams have an opportunity to practice each of those roles that they learn about. There are four stages to project team development and we look at each of those four to take a look at how well you’re able to develop and grow and implement the skillset that you’ve learned. We hope you understand how to be able to develop ground rules so your project teams work much more effectively. The skill set that’s there cannot be measured any higher than the successes of the project. Trying to get that aligned is the importance that’s there. I’ve always enjoyed this class and probably one of the biggest positives of it is when students come back even during the week that they’re still having class and tell us about the things that they’ve implemented. So you get a chance to learn an idea, see a technique, go back and practice it in your own organization, and then be able to come back and report on it in class the next time.
