Der längste Non-Stop-Flug der Welt! Singapore Airlines Business Class A350ULR | YourTravel.TVOn February 18, 2020 by Raul Dinwiddie
Hey guys and welcome to a new Flightreport, today a little more relaxed, because it’s our 2nd time with Singapore Airlines on the longest flight of the world! That is with the A350 900ULR ULR for ultra long range – we tried it from Singapore to New York better to say to the airport Newark. What it means to be on the longest flight of the world and a few details: Oh well, so wet again already, everything has to be super quick: three laptops, unpack everything really quickly everybody behind you waits for you, then repack everything again – he forgot the drone…. But really, every time it’s so crazy, but we were lucky because it’s not too busy here and the Business Class lounge by Singapore Airlines, we can use the Virigin Atlantic clubhouse lounge is right across the security which means we made it here in, if it wasn’t for the drone, well, five minutes over to the lounge! Wow, this lounge by Virgin Atlantic, looks really great! Pretty futuristic and quite modern, so let’s find a nice spot! Which one? Our flight starts pretty early today, so the start from Newark is 10:25 in the morning. But the state of New Jersey only allows alcohol, say champagne, to be sold or served past 9am, which means we’ll have to wait for a little bit. We are over 2 hours early but we have a little work to do, have a coffee or breakfast and then we look forward to the long flight, where there’s lots to drink. I’m thinking right now: 18 hours non stop and there’s only Business and (Premium!) Economy seats how much food and drinks they have to carry! That’s quite a lot, we’ll check that out later! They have “Egg Benedict” here in the Virgin Atlantic clubhouse lounge. What’s interesting, there’s no buffet here. Usually in the various lounges you have big buffets with drinks but here you only have a menu for drinks and food as well to order. Alright now we’re a little late… … and that’s the wrong way, oh well. We’ll use the elevator since we were on last call already. But actually boarding was only supposed to start in 10 minutes… …which is what they do pretty often, we had that already, also with other airlines! Alright so this is Premium Economy, with 94 seats, since there’s no Economy. As I explained to you in the last video, they have really nice seats back here these single seats in the last three rows where you can sit really privately with a huge compartment, look at that! So that’s the Premium Economy by Singapore Airlines that I’ve been on already too, but on a regular A350 900 – pretty cool! But let’s go back to the Business Class where we have 67 seats, in a 1-2-1 configuration. These seats are huge, look at that space very broad seats. And in the middle you can sit together nicely which we’re doing today, not at the window, but next to each other for the 18 hours in the middle. If you’re travelling on your own, I suggest the seats by the window, they’re pretty cool. As said, the seat they have here is really huge. They’re divided in two cabins there is the Business Class and the Premium Economy Class. Yeah, I’m getting situated and it’s really spacious here! I love this seat, every plane needs one of those! Alright let’s get comfortable here on this super-seat! So what do we have here, I looked around a for little bit and found the slippers already, as well as socks, we’re not going to have an amenity kit here by the way, we might have a little package with lotion, eye mask and such, But there’s no amenity kit as you know it with Singapore Airlines. because you can find all you need in the restrooms. Down here in this little compartment you can find the headphones. They have tenderloin from a Sous-Vide-cooker, pork tenderloin…? Sous-Vide-cooker, so they have a 800°C grill on board as well? No, just kidding. … and this great pillow here, forgot to mention that. But there really isn’t much more on board, or rather at my seat. Where’d you get your menu from? Alright now look at this menu, how thick it is! They have cheesecake! That’s going to be tough to choose from! Unfortunately I couldn’t use “Book the Cook” this time, usually in Singapore Business and First Class you can you can order your food pre-flight, they have a really good selection, like hummer, burger, really good steaks… But unfortunately you can only do that starting from Singapore and now we’re flying to Singapore, so we’ll have this menu instead. But as I know it there’s so many choices, we will definitely find something. By the way, this is the second time we’re on the longest flight of the world! With it’s 15.000km linear distance and 16.500km the longest flight there is from New York, the airport Newark… (to Singapore) Sorry I got interrupted there, yeah 16.500km actual distance and last time that took about 16 hours, this time it’s even gonna be 18, 18,5 hours. With the, as Stefan said, A350 900ULR. I’m asking myself: If I fly from Singapore to New York it takes 16 hours… interrupted again, with the hot towel this time … I ask myself why does it only take 16 hours one way, but from New York to Singapore it’ll take 18 hours and even more? She’s really nice isn’t she? – Yes she is. We have a crew that’s really nice but that’s the usual with Singapore Airlines. Great topic, because Singapore Airlines is a five-star-airline by Skytrax I would say they really earned that! We know them and we’re pretty sure, they’ll be great on this flight once again. There is three services but theoretically you can order whatever, whenever. But here in the menu it says that the first service is going to be right after takeoff, after that between the 8th or 6th hour and towards the end there will be a refreshment, a final service basically. The choice of wine doesn’t look too big, but they probably have enough stored. And there is one champagne here and only two white wines but then in total four red ones and one port wine. What’s pretty cool: I can adjust the system as I like it, so I have selected german for example and also put into the settings, that I would like to have the movie language in german as well. That’s what someone asked in a FAQ video before, you fly so frequently, why don’t you just watch the movies in english, why is it so important for you the german audio? That’s simply because many others asked “Hey, you were on this flight or with this airline: did they have movies in german as well?” And when I just answer the comments, I might as well just tell you in the video, and that’s the reason for us to tell you, if they are with german audio or not, because it’s not about us. Alright so now you know, why we like sitting in the window seat, because now we sit here in the middle together, which is great, but now we can’t show you any video of the start and not of the landing either, because every window seat is taken already! The flight is pretty full in general, probably about 90% booked and all the window seats are taken. But we were at the airport yesterday and filmed yesterdays A350! So let’s see these instead! Oh yes, they have a cup of warm, mixed nuts as well as some Charles Heinzig champagne! Here you get it only after departure, that depends on the regulations of your starting airport. Cheers! To a great, long and relaxed flight! Meanwhile I tried to connect to the wifi, because for Business and First Class customers of Singapore Airlines there is complimentary wifi, free of charge internet the entire flight. I only have to enter my name as well as my seat – 22D. How many of you in Germany have… 28 Mbit/s? With that speed I can even upload my next video! Sorry, upload is only 3,69… – Still enough! This is one of many restrooms they have here in the Business Class. And as I said, there is drawers here. With shaver, tooth brush, some lotion everything that is usually included in the amenity kit you have right here, in the bathrooms. Then we have some mouth wash, some cotton towels, even cups, another soap – basically anything you need. The restrooms are also pretty spacious, I can turn around here quite nicely, without hitting myself anywhere. So there is enough space here to change as well. Unfortunately with Singapore Airlines there is no pyjamas anymore, so you have to bring your own, comfortable clothes or maybe just another pyjama of another flight. Are you sure? That’s pork! – Yeah, I wanted to try the pork, since I usually have the beef. By the way, the monitor in front of me here is not a touchscreen. I can only use it with this controller. I just turned on the entertainment system: it offers a good variety, but not too big either. You do have to search for german movies. The most recent movies are with german audio, but I could also watch english ones. But since you’re always asking for the german variety of movies available. Usually there are enough. If I don’t want to watch the newest Hollywood movies, there is also older movies, even “Alien”, so movies that are over 30 years old. That’s pretty cool! We’re flying across the north pole today, there is two alternative routes either across Europe flying across the Atlantic and the across Europe to Singapore, or the other way around, via China, Asia and then down to Singapore. So once I have decided that I don’t just want to watch movies, I might want to work a little bit, you have a charging port right behind you! It features two USB ports one is the usual, the other one just for charging, as well as HDMI and finally a port for iPod. I really like that it’s right there, so that it’s not too far for most charging cables. The table is hidden right here, you can move it around quite freely. As you can see, pretty cool! You can also leave your seat even with the table out besides the fact that it’s so huge, I only have to move to my left here and then I’m out already. You can also personalise it, pull it all the way up for example, so sit straight up like this, it’s pretty much like a desk at home, I can work perfectly like this, which I’ll do later too. Because in 18 hours I’ll do more than eating and watching movies. In between I’ll have a little rest, of course. We’ll see what Dominik is up to… Alright so here’s the food! But I didn’t tell you yet, how we got to sit in this plane right now. We didn’t spend much money, almost nothing, because we payed for this flight with our Miles and More. 62.000 miles is what you need to fly from Newark via Singapore that’s just a layover, to Jakarta. With Miles and More it’s always split through regions, so you’d need the same amount of miles if you only booked the flight to Singapore. bit we wanted to fly to Jakarta which is why we only had to pay 62.000 miles plus 27 SGD, which is basically nothing! Super cheap! Dominik just asked me: “How does one get these miles?” – which is probably what you are wondering right now. It’s actually pretty easy: if you get the Miles and More credit card for example, you get, at least twice a year, a welcome bonus of 20.000 miles! So that’s already 20.000. Besides that, as you know, you can transfer PayBack points to Miles and More. so you can transfer them at a 1:1 ratio. Also if you go shopping and you use your PayBack card you receive half a mile for the first and one mile for every second euro spent. And if on top of that you want a newspaper, that’s what we do sometimes, up to 13 newspapers you can sign up for each year. So basically you buy them, order them, at the “Leserservice” and you basically recruit someone, so for example I could recruit Dominik, so he’s then reading “HörZu” and I receive 10.000 PayBack points for that which I can transfer to Miles and More. And that way we can basically transfer the miles back and forth. And for the “HörZu” you receive about 10.000 PayBack points, for another one maybe 9.000, so you can choose from a big portfolio. You can check all that out via our website, GlobalTraveler.TV that’s what our Travelhacks are about so there’s a couple videos online and you can also send us an email, of you have any questions. But that’s how to get 62.000 miles together. So this is the appetiser, salmon with salmon caviar, as well as cucumber. With it there is various bread, as you saw. These are Singapore Airlines headphones, which are over-ear and noise cancelling. And what’s great is, there’s two options to connect them: either over on the left, if you lie down, or up to the right, when watching TV or eating. I chose the pork for main course, specially made in the Sous-Vide-cooker. Do you know the Sous-Vide-cooker? It’s something like a water basin, where the meat, usually in a plastic wrapper, is then for some hours, or for however long you like, pre-cooked in warm water. We did that before as well at home, it’s pretty cool! I know Singapore Airlines, from last time in their A350, but even starting in the US the quality of the food is incredible! I can’t even say, who’s better Qatar Airways or Singapore Airlines in Business Class – I think they’re pretty close! They’re both incredibly good, (Dominiks main course) fresh and just look at these beans! Super tasty! It’s better than some steak! Really tasty: towards the end there is desert which is either ice cream (and cheese) or a lot of fruit, then the cheesecake that Dominik ordered. Did you see, they are really quick, although it looks pretty complicated at first, because first, they have to fold over the entire back of the seat, then a cushion on top and a blanket which is all hidden behind the seat and then finally a really nice pillow. But you’re always a little crooked in this seat. But it’s still more than comfortable and if I do have the idea to work, I’ll simply fold it back to work at my desk. Time flies! We only have two hours left, I probably slept about 8 hours, it was super comfortable, so I had no problem. But therefore I also missed the second service. But now we just ordered it for us, you can order food until two hours before landing. Made it to Singapore! Somehow all that time passed really quickly, I slept at least 8 hours, but it was still pretty nice. The service was amazing, let me tell you! It was really five-star-worthy. Or what do you think? Absolutely! And in case you want to know exactly: I slept 5,5 hours. – That’s less than I did! The service was… this time I would say even better compared to the last longest flight of the world. I really don’t want to spoil anything, but I think Singapore Airlines just pushed Qatar Airways of the throne of our favorite airlines! But we still have our Singapore Airlines challenge in front of us. Let’s see how that’s going to be! Because now we’re on our way with Singapore Airlines 777 – let’s see how that’s going to be! But that’s not too important, since we still have a few weeks… “not important” we soon fly the Dreamliner-10, that’s much more important, as well as again in First Class so there’s a few more videos for Singapore Airlines! But as usual they will be pretty great. So now we’ve arrived here, oh I wanted to say another word about the seat: although it looks a little uncomfortable on the first glance, it’s really big and very comfortable indeed, you can sleep on it very well it’s simply great. All I can say is… Garlic! All I can taste is garlic right now, you wouldn’t believe it! Pure garlic on my steak and it was raw! But please finish! I was done anyways. So the seat, very innovative, as well as the table, you just pull it out from here and then move it around, you can even use the table lying down! Which I did, while I was lying down already I ordered a little something, since you can always order something what and however much you want! The restrooms were really clean as well, always been looked after. Yeah what else, nothing else to say, they really earned their five stars today! For us it’s the best airline of this year! See you in the next video! Ciao!
