Dance Moms: The ALDC Rehearses “Rising from the Ashes” (S8) | Behind the Scenes | LifetimeOn September 9, 2019 by Raul Dinwiddie
– There’s no way you guys No way. They’re doing
everything they can to get their big guns there. Everybody wants
to beat the ALDC. You have a target on your back. I’ve lived with it. I’ve always had a
target on my back. But now I get to share
it with all of you. So let’s get started. OK, so the title is
“Rising From the Ashes.” We do here. This beginning can be morphed
into more hands on the ground or more flexed feet
or– like, right now, we kind of have the base.
– OK, OK. Let me see what you have.
Let me see. Just don’t do music yet, guys,
because I don’t think we’re going to make it across in 16. I might have to add four more. Because we can actually
all start, like– on stage. Like, everyone move up. Ev– everyone– no, not Lily. Keep going.
Keep going. Keep going.
Something. I can– OK. 5, 6, 7, and 8. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5,
and 6 and 7 and 8. And 2, 2, 3, 4, 5– no– 6, 7, go. Uh, something up. Passe, run, run, run, fall. And fall down 6, 7, and 8. [inaudible] Hold your leg on all fall down. Hold your leg on all fall down. So this is count 5. Down, count 6, 7, 8. Jump on 1. Not on the 2. We did that like 18 times. Don’t come in here
and do it wrong. It makes us look like we d– were running around
in circles in there. [music playing] (SINGING) Ashes. Ashes. Ashes. Rings and rosies. There are bodies falling down. Again. In your first leg, Lily– GIANNA: That’s true, yeah. –when you kick it, it’s
just not that impactful as when you d velopp it. Right. Like, it needs to stop for
a second and then invert and come down. Right. You can still kick it. Just try to freeze
it for a moment. Ch. OK. GIANNA: OK, stop. So after you kick it up
and you hold it there, you’re giving me, like, down. Like, a– like– like– like– you’re doing exactly
what you think you’re supposed to
do, instead of, like, pulling it down and falling. Like– like, I
need you to dance, and not look like a mannequin. What are the lyrics, Gianna? What is it saying? GIANNA: It’s basically
ring around the rosy. Ring– rings and roses,
everybody’s falling down. I’ve got the posies. The words start off
after 16 counts. OK. And then you go to that– no. Go to that corner. Pressley, go to that corner. And then you two are– but, like, kind
of make a circle. OK. Go ahead. Just– just improv
when the music– [music playing] Just– just movement. Just movement. (SINGING) Ashes. Ashes. Ashes. ABBY: And come into the circle. (SINGING) There are
bodies falling down. I just think– you
know, traditionally– I know you’re trying to break
away from what would be. But I think when we do roses,
roses, we all fall down, don’t we walk in a circle? Don’t we do– is it–
what’s the real thing? KIDS: Ring around the
rosie, pocketful of posies. GIANNA: We’re not doing that. Ashes, ashes,
we all fall down! [inaudible] All right. GIANNA: And whenever
you guys do something like that, like funny, it breaks
my entire train of thought– like I told you in there. So I think on everybody’s,
let’s try to hold hands. And then when
we’re falling down, It’s going to be like,
Brady, your, like, lean-back hinge thing. Let me just see that,
because then we’ve got to get moving on this.
[music playing] There are bodies falling down. So we can still start off
that way and then make– GIANNA: No, I– –a circle. Which w– you did. GIANNA: I don’t know,
we’re OK like this. 6– just try it? Just visual, different? 5, 6, 7, 8, 1. So Lily, you can
d velopp now, since you’re– since it’s middle. Up. And then throw it back. And go. And that’s like– those
would be ashes right there, that she picked up. Go. And if you can’t control
that without touching the ground at all, just
dropping down and coming up, it would be better. GIANNA: And straight forward. Ha. And freeze. We’ve got to get
more in here, now. Uh. ABBY: Paris is dancing. Go. GIANNA: 1, 2. And do what you
were doing before. I just don’t like your–
your upper body is really stiff on your fan kick. That’s why I’m changing it. ABBY: Turn your foot
out– that left foot. Don’t step on a
pigeon-toed foot. GIANNA: OK. And then Hannah,
what did you do? You just walked forward. 5, 6, 7. 1, 2. [music playing] Ashes, ashes, ashes. Ashes. Ashes. Ashes. Rings– It’s OK. (SINGING) –and rosies. There are bodies falling down. Something like that. We can change the formation.
So Pressley– Like, when we get to– GIANNA: –doesn’t
have to be over here. Yeah. You two switch. Yeah. And then, like,
lean to your right and throw your head
on your shoulder. Ha. Your other shoulder. And then go the other
way, like ha, fall. ABBY: Brady.
Use your feet. Put your feet in
second, everybody. Make it bigger. Make the circle bigger. Make the circle bigger. OK. Now, you’re inverting
your left knee and picking up your left heel. And you’re putting your
hand on your shoulder. Right. GIANNA: Freeze. Try it one at a time. Just try this. Starting with Lily to
Pressley, 5, 6, 7, 8. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6– no. Make it– make it more of,
like, a moan than a smack. 5, 6, 7, and go,
go, go, go, go, go. Do it all together, guys. ABBY: Again.
– Same time. ABBY: All together. 5, 6, 7, go. [music playing] (SINGING) Ashes. Ashes. Please don’t touch the floor. This is the third
time I’m telling you. Do not touch the floor. (SINGING) Rings and rosies. There are bodies falling down. GIANNA: Stand up. Leg. No, we’ll do it different. Paris, when you come
out, you’ve hidden behind Brady the whole time.
GIANNA: You are. You need to find that–
GIANNA: Yeah. –window right away. Roll up, 7, 8. Gah. (SINGING) –rosies. [inaudible] settle down. How many counts
are we falling for? DANCER: Four. Down 2, 3, 4. Let’s go, get to a leg
and then melt back down. Da, ha. Catch. [inaudible] GIANNA: I– it’s OK. Just hold it. There we go. Oh, that’s– Brady, go that way. Why don’t you go– move over. And– and go in
the middle of them. Try that, guys.
