Confidence Course | 3rd Regiment, Basic Camp 2019On August 28, 2019 by Raul Dinwiddie
Today at CST, Basic Camp Cadets are facing their fears and testing their teamwork as they go through the obstacle course. Motivation and determination were not on the packing list, but they were definitely brought to the obstacle course by the cadets. Trainees were required to attempt all twelve obstacles to not only prove their strength, but display how well they can work together as a team. They’re doing the obstacle course as a team They’re moving through the obstacle course so they can build a little bit of a team camaraderie and just see– challenge themselves because it’s a lot of their first time doing obstacles such as the “low climb” and going over a high wall and stuff like that. Teamwork’s important because when people start getting discouraged, you’ve got to cheer them on. Let them know that they got this and everything. For some cadets, this was their first time venturing into something as physically challenging as the course. Though most cadets had little to no experience, the encouragement from their battle buddies helped build their confidence. Some common fears included heights and not being able to lift their own weight, but every cadet was able to push through and exhibit how resilient they can be. The hardest part had to have been the rope and the monkey bars because I never did monkey bars as a child and I cannot climb rope. I mean, some of them I had a little bit of experience with like the rope climb. I knew the technique behind it. Other ones I’ve never done before so I just had to throw myself into the situation. The Basic Camp Cadets ended their training with a race among the platoons in their company to build camaraderie. Reporting from CST Public Affairs Office, I’m Averi-Alexya Beck.
