NVO Re Generation conducted a research among young people who go out to nightclubs that was filled by 3318 young persons. Acording to results 72% of them at least once tried cannabis 37% amphetamines
35% ecstasy Every 10th person tried psychoactive substances in form of pill or powder without knowing what it was.
Every 3rd that uses stimulants doesn’t drink enough water And 2/3 with stimulants drinks, alcohol and energy drinks For sniffing papermoney uses over 80%, while every second one shared their sniffing tool with others Earplugs never used 97% of young people in clubs NIGHTLIFE OUTREACH PROGRAMS STILL DON’T EXIST IN SERBIA… Clubing and youth health Re-establishing the nightlife outreach programs in Serbia is very important. Those programs existed in 2003. when for the first time that kind of action was introduced on festival, and that was of course EXIT which experienced some kind of boom and big promotion. What youth was not familiar with, not just youth from Serbia, but also from the region, Macedonia or Croatia, so that was their familiarization with the methodology, they were distanced cause was weird to them that anybody actually cares for them, that is giving attention to them and want to talk honestly about things, while on the other side we had young people from Western Europe countries that knew really good what those programs are, and they were glad that it could be seen and if needed they can ask for any kind of medical assistance. First time I heard about harm reduction programs in clubs in far 2005. I heard about harm reduction programs in nightlife, but i cant remember if i ever saw them in Serbia. I heard about those programs, i was working as a outreach team for a while, that was a useful thing before 12 years in Serbia. I heard about nightlife outreach programs in clubs, I think that once even appeared some organisations that were talking and trying to reach the youth I saw those programs in Serbia,
before about 10 years ago, I remember sharing condoms at the parties, and providing earplugs, but nothing more than that. I saw the work of
nightlife outreach programs only few times usually at the parties that were generally was address to that. I had a friend who was a part of an outreach team once, then i went to EXIT festival, and for the first time saw what they are doing, and few years after I started working the same job. Those programs in Serbia existed for a short time, and were being implemented usually in Belgrade, then at the big festivals, and got closed at the end. These kinds of programs are important for young people because they believe more to people that work with them in such way, because they don prohibit the use in the first place, it creates hostility, and they stop listening. While if u approach as that is their own choice but you offer them information about risks of misuse, they want to hear you and get valuable information. they want to hear you and get valuable information. I think
they are useful cause young people have to know that with using psychoactive substances comes responsibility towards yourself and the other around you. Yea, i think its really important that young people have awareness about them Absolutely,
they are very important for young in Belgrade I think that they are not only needed, but necessary I think that they are not only needed, but necessary These programs are very important because they help young people to inform themselves about substances they are using, so as to help themselves and save their health as well as the health of the other people that they are spending time with. as well as the health of the other people that they are spending time with.
Why they are important is because young people not only learn how to protect themselves, they learn a lot practical stuff, how to protect others, how to behave in city when they are out. Its not just „I know everything about substances that I am using or not, I also know how to behave responsibly when I am out in the city, I know when I go to new festival I will first look for how to secure my safety find exit in case of emergency, I know when I go to new festival I will first look for how to secure my safety find exit in case of emergency,
i wont first look for the bar, instead i will look for safe place if i need to get away to, so the noise is not big. I think more than ever need information about substances they are using, but not just that, as i can see some things did change in last 10 years in Serbia but i don’t know how deep that goes. I think its most important that people have will and want to inform themselves about substances they are using, otherwise they can get themselves or the others in dangerous situations. It is really important that young people know what they are taking if they are taking anything, and in that case how to do it as well as the consequences of those acts, what are the risks and how low the harm if they chose to do it Our youth for sure need some eye opening and explanations about substances and there safe use, how to use them safe as possible and what are the consequences, what can happened, cause i think that drugs are available on every corner, and its easy to reach them, its what 21st century is like, so the accent should be on that and explain them what they should and they need to do about it. Young people mostly don’t think, i’m speaking form my experience when I was young, there is a term hotshots, so young don’t think with their own heads, and for example when they go to a party they don’t think that they should drink water, so you dehydrate, and have headache tomorrow, and you are nervous, tired, not in the mood, you fight with your parents and etc and it a one thing. Another one that I pay close attention to through years of Vjing work (and they are many) is need for earplugs. We didn’t buy our hearing on a market, and we have that one and only, so if we loose it it wont be pretty, I use them and I recommend to all if they forget those and don’t have other, use your earphones from your players or phones, they could be helpful. Those programs awakens the awareness not only for themes regarding life they are interested at the moment, if we speak about psychoactive substances, but regarding everything else as well. They can also learn how to put person in coma position, how to reanimate someone, so its useful throughout whole life, and its not just one stage in life where young people go out.
