Anderson | “Paul Scholes is one of the greatest!” | Manchester United teammatesOn February 22, 2020 by Raul Dinwiddie
During my time in Manchester, I think that
mostly our dressing room was competitive, because there were many players with quality: Scholes, Giggs, Evra, Rooney. There wasn’t a player in the team who didn’t train properly because we always did what we should and the games were very tough, with lots of physical contact during our training sessions. I don’t think we had one like that. The Premier League naturally makes you train hard. There is a competitive mentality that makes you train hard. The manager asks you to give more, Ferguson did it. So, we always had to give more. It’s very hard to see something like that in Manchester. Ronaldo, Giggs and Van der Sar were the guys that were always on time and even arrived one hour early. That was me. Evra too, who sometimes came with me. We had to be there at 9:30am so the guys arrived at 9:31am or 9:32am. There is a lot of icy roads in England, even snow so we had to drive slow to prevent accidents. Nani and Ronaldo were very difficult to play against in a 1v1 situation. Rooney always liked it. Ferdinand as well. Ferdinand even played in goal once. Nani used to hold the ball a lot. We always played one or two touches but he held it for longer. Our group was really good. It was me, Ferdinand, Evra, Nani and even Ronaldo. I think that everybody in our group was really good. Wes Brown, John O’Shea, Darren Fletcher, Danny Welbeck, everybody made jokes. We played pranks on each other all the time. I think that Cristiano Ronaldo
was the best penalty taker in the team. In the Champions League final it was Cristiano, Tevez, me, Nani and Owen who took the penalties. I think those were the players who did it
best in our team. I could say Ronaldo and Nani, but I was the fastest with the ball! Scholes was very tough. He is the kind of player that you’ll never forget. One of the best players I’ve ever seen in my life.
